Our different age groups

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world". Nelson Mandela
The Under 2s

The under 2s are at a ratio of 1 adult to every 3 children.

Our homely Farm house setting allows babies to settle with ease, with qualified, caring staff to support babies during the transition from home to our childcare setting and to provide parents with the re-assurance they need during this important time for all concerned.

The Under 2s have the whole Farm House with 6 separately themed rooms, including a sensory room, messy room and role-play room. All of the rooms are well resourced, providing children with a stimulating, safe and clean environment - an atmosphere to encourage all areas of the babies’ development though fun whilst learning.

Key workers look after each baby as an individual, to ensure they develop and pass the many meaningful milestones in their first year of life from crawling, through to those all so important first steps. Staff offer full support to babies as they progress but also give them the encouragement to become independent.

Your baby will nap in one of our three sleep rooms which are separate from the play areas.

The 2 year old's

The two year olds are at a ratio of 1 adult to 4 children.

The move up to the this age group sees the children change from our Farm House up to our Old Dairy barn conversion. We organise settling in sessions in the weeks leading up to the child's move up to ensure as smooth transition as possible.

This transition progresses into more areas of their development journey, with a little more structure and organisation to their day. Circle time and discussions begin encouraging children to make simple sounds and first words to assist them in becoming skillful communicators!

Your child will be given rich opportunities to problem-solve in play situations, and again, support is given in encouraging your child to grow their independence. Social skills will be developed as children are taught to use manners and etiquette, such as sitting nicely at the table to enjoy their meals with a group of friends.

Much of this learning is done though play. Staff use the Early Years Foundation Stage to plan a busy and exciting, action-packed day for their groups, designed to stimulate your child’s imagination and develop further key skills. These include key areas such as communication and language, mathematics, physical development and expressive arts and design.

Parental input is also very important - if there is something you want us to build on or work on with your child, we will incorporate this into their activities over the day. We promote confidence in your child that gives them the motivation to learn and helps them to achieve their full potential.

The Pre-schoolers

The 3 and 4 year olds have a staff ratio of 1 adult to every 6 children.

In the beautifully converted barn, the children will begin to feel more grown up. Before long, both parents and children will be thinking about ‘big school’.

At this point the greater emphasis will be placed on providing a secure foundation in preparation for the step up to reception class.

Our curriculum which is based on the Early Years Foundation Stage and is designed to incorporate the seven areas of learning, they are planned around the 3 primary and four secondary outcomes. You will be given regular reports on your child’s progress and informed which topics and themes the children are following.

You can learn too! If this is your first child you will find the education system very different from when you left it, with new ideas, methods and terms. We will help you and your child prepare for the adventure of big school. Therefore making the transition from Nursery to 'big school' as smooth as possible, we will liaise with your child’s teacher and provide a detailed record of their learning.

Farm House and Old Dairy Gardens

We are so lucky to have the fantastic opportunities of a large garden on our Farm House premises which compromises an Orchard, large grassed area, vegetable plot, climbing framed area, mud kitchen and so much more.

Both Davey Day Care gardens have been designed and laid out to create a safe environment for children to play and explore with fantastic educational value.

The stimulating atmosphere will enhance any child’s Physical Abilities.

The children are able to enjoy the safe and secure garden spaces, be it through free play, structured activity or just having fun outside!
