Our different age groups

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world". Nelson Mandela
Yellow Chicks (0-1 Years)

Housed on the top floor of our homely Grade II Listed Farmhouse, the Yellow Chicks’ environment is thoughtfully designed to support a smooth transition from home to childcare. Parents can feel reassured knowing their child is in a comforting, stimulating, and safe setting during this important developmental stage.

The space is divided into three themed rooms that are regularly adapted based on the children’s interests. These include areas for:

  • Role Play: Encouraging imagination and social interaction.

  • Messy Play: Promoting sensory exploration and creativity.

  • Cozy Corners & Reading Nooks: Offering comfort and fostering a love for books.

  • Maths & Literacy: Supporting early cognitive skills in a fun, engaging way.

Each room is thoughtfully resourced to inspire curiosity and promote development through play.

We also provide dedicated sleep rooms, separate from play areas, to create a peaceful, restful environment for naps. These rooms support strong physical and emotional development by ensuring babies have the quiet time they need to recharge and grow.

Every baby is assigned a dedicated Key Worker who builds a strong relationship with your child and works closely with you to follow their home routine. This helps your baby feel secure and supports key milestones, from early communication and motor skills to those exciting first steps.

Pink Piglets (1-2 Years)

Our Pink Piglets group, catering to children aged 1 to 2 years, is the next exciting step in your child’s development. With a ratio of 1 adult to every 3 children, and increasing to 1 adult to every 4 children as they approach 2 years old, we exceed the required standards to ensure your child receives the attentive care and support they deserve. Our caring and experienced team provides a supportive and stimulating environment that encourages growing independence and curiosity.

Housed in the welcoming setting of the Farmhouse, the Pink Piglets have access to three engaging rooms tailored to support their developmental needs. These rooms are thoughtfully designed and resourced to provide:

  • Active Play and Exploration: Encouraging physical development and coordination.

  • Messy and Creative Play: Supporting sensory and artistic expression.

  • Role Play and Imaginative Activities: Helping children develop social skills and creativity through dressing up, pretend play, and exploring real-world scenarios in a safe, fun environment.

  • Quiet, Cozy Areas: Fostering focus, early communication, and comfort.

As with our Yellow Chicks, the Pink Piglets have dedicated sleep rooms, separate from the play areas. These quiet spaces are designed to provide the restful environment needed for children to recharge and support healthy physical, emotional, and cognitive development.

Building on the foundations established in the Yellow Chicks group, the Pink Piglets experience an increased level of learning and exploration. Through a variety of activities, children are encouraged to develop their early communication, problem-solving, and social skills while being supported by their Key Worker, who provides personalised care and attention.

At this stage, children are encouraged to explore their environment with greater confidence, make choices in their play, and begin forming relationships with their peers—all while having fun and learning through hands-on experiences.

Red Foxes (2-3 Years)

Our Red Foxes group, designed for children aged 2 to 3 years, marks an exciting phase in your child's development with an increased level of learning from the earlier age groups. The Red Foxes are based in the Old Dairy, a beautifully converted barn with an open-plan layout that encourages free-flow play and exploration. This spacious, well-resourced environment features designated areas for learning, such as:

  • Imaginative Play: Encouraging creativity through role-play and problem-solving scenarios.

  • Construction and Manipulation: Supporting fine motor skills and early engineering concepts through building and creating.

  • Literacy and Numeracy: Introducing early reading, writing, and number skills in a fun and engaging way.

  • Art and Sensory Play: Promoting creativity and sensory exploration through a variety of materials and textures.

The Red Foxes group enjoys an increased ratio of 1 adult to every 5 children, ensuring that each child receives focused, individualized support while fostering their growing independence and curiosity.

Children in this group also benefit from the use of their own outdoor play area, providing them with a safe and stimulating space to explore, climb, and engage in physical activities. Additionally, the Red Foxes enjoy regular access to the rural Farmhouse gardens, where they can explore nature, observe wildlife, and develop a deeper connection with the outdoors. These outdoor experiences help to build physical coordination, boost curiosity, and promote an appreciation for nature.

In the Red Foxes group, children are encouraged to take on more responsibility for their learning, with activities and experiences that promote problem-solving, teamwork, and decision-making. They are supported by their Key Worker, who continues to nurture their development and provide a secure foundation for social, emotional, and cognitive growth.

The Pre-schoolers

Our Preschool group, catering to children aged 3 to 4 years, is the final step in preparing your child for their transition to school. With an increased level of learning that builds on the foundations of previous age groups, this stage is designed to foster independence, confidence, and key skills for school readiness.

The Preschoolers are based in the Old Dairy, a thoughtfully designed barn conversion with an open-plan layout. The space is carefully organised into designated areas for learning, including:

  • Literacy and Numeracy Zones: Supporting early reading, writing, and math skills through interactive and engaging activities.

  • Creative Arts: Encouraging self-expression through painting, drawing, and crafts.

  • Role Play and Imaginative Areas: Promoting social skills and creativity through storytelling and pretend play.

  • Construction Area: Developing problem-solving and fine motor skills through building and design.

  • Large Soft Play Zone: Providing opportunities for physical development, coordination, and energy release.

The Preschool group enjoys a ratio of 1 adult to every 8 children, ensuring personalised support while encouraging independence and group learning experiences.

The Preschoolers also benefit from access to their own outdoor play area, where they can explore and engage in physical activities, as well as regular use of the rural Farmhouse gardens. These outdoor spaces allow children to connect with nature, investigate their surroundings, and develop a love for the outdoors. Activities such as gardening, exploring wildlife, and outdoor problem-solving enhance their understanding of the natural world while fostering curiosity and teamwork.

A significant focus in this group is on school readiness. Through carefully planned activities and routines, children develop the social, emotional, and practical skills they’ll need for a smooth transition to school life. They practice turn-taking, listening, following instructions, and building independence in daily tasks like dressing and managing personal belongings.

The Preschool environment supports children as they build the confidence, resilience, and enthusiasm for learning that will serve them well in school and beyond. With guidance from their Key Worker, each child is nurtured as they take their final steps at Davey Day Care, ready to embrace their next adventure with excitement and self-assurance.
